My Project

In second grade, we do a large unit on heroes. Students read about and research different remarkable people throughout history and choose one person who inspires them to write a biography report on.

Having a diverse set of books on different heroes throughout history will help inspire my students and ensure they find a hero they can connect with.

My goal is to continue to grow our classroom library to include heroes from a variety of backgrounds. Many of these books were chosen based on people who my students already admire, like Messi. Others are heroes they may not know yet, like Malala.

It's also important that my readers are able to understand what they are researching. These books will make reading biographies accessible to my emerging readers.

Nothing can beat how a student lights up when they are researching their hero and they race to me to tell me a new and interesting fact. I can't wait to unlock more of these moments with my students through these books.
