Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having books in a specific language helps students a lot, especially when they have just arrived from their country of origin.

It makes them feel that they are welcome and are part of the community they are joining.

Being different in language and culture is not easy, but knowing that when you arrive at the Library and find books in your language will make you smile. So having a wide variety of books in Spanish is essential to make Latino students feel welcomed and cared for. It makes them feel that they matter at the school and that their culture matters too. Having happy students is crucial for a good learning environment.

My goal is to have enough books in Spanish for the entire school, since we have a variety of students who speak, in this case, Spanish. I have seen firsthand how they feel when I tell them that there are books in Spanish. There is joy and hope that they will not give up and will continue fighting to achieve their dreams. Another goal to have is to figure out what type of books Latino students are more attracted to and are more likely to pick up and read. I also want to get books that help them learn more about their ethnicity, culture, and history that way they are left in the dark about what their ancestors had to go through.

In my school, we have a great number of Latin students. Knowing that they have books in their language or that are bilingual makes them happy. They will be the new generation of this incredible country, so we want them to see that they have the necessary tools and are very important for the community, in general.
