My Project

Last year, during my first year as an English teacher, I created a DonorsChoose.org project to begin my classroom library for my students. It was important that I had book clubs that could be used to differentiate reading instruction. Now, my students are becoming more engaged in reading on their own, and I want to offer them independent reading texts for their own reading.

Independent reading is an opportunity for students to self-select titles of interest to them to help increase literacy, reading stamina, comprehension, and develop an overall love for learning.

While some students were slow to invest in independent reading, by midway through my first year students were requesting specific books they were interested in!

By providing some of their specifically requested books, I hope to continue to encourage their blooming love for reading and encourage them all to enjoy reading.
