This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are a wonderful, energetic group who require a lot of tactile resources to aid in their daily learning routine. They love being able to select a book to read but are unable to stay focused without constant hands-on support. They are also nonverbal therefore unable to let us know if they are struggling to understand a request.
The books I am asking for will benefit and support my students with autism as the colorful pictures will help them to recognize and receive valuable sensory input.
The books have been chosen with my students' interests in mind, and will help to ensure their engagement while learning. These books are also short in length and have vibrant pictures that will keep them focused and on task. Additionally, having a variety of books will help to enrich vocabulary and enhance specific language skills. Books also activate and maintain students' attention, and the multi-sense visual, kinesthetic and tactile stimulation helps to increase their sitting tolerance so they can engage for longer periods at a time. My students will benefit greatly from the sensory stimulation these books provide, and will help to promote and maintain a love of reading.
