Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is 96% Latino with a majority of students that are either English language learners or former English language learners. This year we have an influx of students living in temporary housing. We want to make a difference. Our students are very connected to the arts. Music helps our ELL population increase their interest and motivation in learning language and acquiring new vocabulary.
The Disney Musicals in Schools programming fosters many of the school goals and learning standards that are part of our student's expectations.
Participation in this collaborative project gives our students lifelong skills that will enable them to be successful in real-world events. Our students are eager to learn new things and are always encouraged to think outside the box and let their imaginations soar.
This program is not only teaching our students but the teachers as well. We received staff development from Disney Musicals in Schools' teaching artists and they have mentored our staff on how to continue teaching the theatrical arts for years to come. This has an immeasurable positive impact on the entire school community.
The materials we are requesting for this project will help make the "101 Dalmations Kids" production in June 2024 a success. The materials that we are requesting will be supplies for our volunteer costume designers for our performance. This includes fabrics, notions, shirts, pants, props and pieces of costumes that are needed to wardrobe our cast. The performances will be open to the community, parents, and local donors. Our children are eager to showcase their arduous and diligent creative work. The costumes will bring our performance to life.
