Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cinco de Mayo is huge holiday for the community in which I work. Many of the students in my class are Hispanic and I would love to be able celebrate their culture in class. I want to be able to celebrate their culture and family traditions of all of the students in my classroom.
Cinco de Mayo provides the perfect opportunity to teach children about Mexican history, art (making pinatas) language (books), music/instruments (marcas), dance (mexican hat dance), traditions and trying some tasty South-of-the-Border treats in a fun way.
During this week, we would love to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with reading books, dressing up, making music with Maracas, pre-k performance and end the week with a piñata party. The decorations will add a joyful, colorful and exciting element to the festivities while highlighting and infusing Mexican culture into our curriculum.
We will enjoy all of the Cinco de Mayo treats as we read books about interesting Hispanic characters. Thank you for bringing Cinco de Mayo into our classroom. We truly appreciate your support! GRACIAS!
