This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My school has an amazing outdoor education program that I started there over 10 years ago. Our outdoor classrooms, chicken coops, native flower gardens, and food growing beds are all very popular with our students and families - but they come with a lot of work, too! We need two new wheelbarrows to keep our program rolling.
My students often have their first food-growing experience right in our school garden.
They see where food comes from - and help grow and harvest it themselves. Our Nature Explorations program allows students to participate in place-based learning that engages them in the natural world - and kids love it.
The wheelbarrows will join, and eventually replace, our aging fleet of well-loved, well-used wheelbarrows that help move everything from chicken feed to compost. We use wheelbarrows with two front wheels so students can help, too (the dual wheels prevent the all too common wheelbarrow tip-over when students are the operators).
While wheelbarrows might not be an every day school supply, they are at our school! Thank you for supporting my students and for believing in an amazing public education for every child.
