Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a school that is committed to providing an educational foundation that prepares each one to be a productive, socially responsible citizen and a lifelong learner. The close-knit community of families and the school’s highly educated faculty work collaboratively to provide an environment that fosters each child’s development and success.
What I love about my students is their hunger to learn about how things work.
I'm really excited to see how fast they learn from their successes and failures.
Our students love gardening and it helps support their social-emotional mental health and academic progress. We have a few raised garden beds that have yet to be used, and many other areas that have enormous garden potential to help educate and therapeutically support our wonderful students and staff. We would like to utilize our garden to support our students with learning how to manage their emotions and learning healthy coping skills that will help provide valuable tools for life.
Our garden and the action of caring for our garden supports our students' social-emotional needs which helps support their academic progress and brings joy to their day.
Gardening is an effective way to help combat behavioral issues and to improve the self-esteem of children. The simple act of watering the flowers or turning over the soil immediately calms our students when they are struggling to work through big emotions. Gardening improves physical fitness, health, mood, and cognition of all our students and staff. Your support in our project will help us begin our garden, while promoting this healthy learning.
