Mr. J. David Martinez from Arlington TX is requesting a classroom visitor through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a virtual author visit with writing and drawing workshop!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

On November 1, I attended Heinemann's PD event Bringing Writing (and Drawing!) Strategies to Life in the Classroom co-hosted by author and illustrator Jarrett Lerner. At the event, Jarrett shared some super easy drawing strategies with us. When I returned to the classroom the next day, I showed students how Jarrett taught us to draw a pencil. They loved it! Many of them wanted me to send a picture of their drawings to Jarrett. (I did!)
Ever since, students have been asking if Jarrett is coming to visit.
I've requested a full-day virtual author program. This includes:
-Three workshops (one for each of my classes)
-Signed bookplates
-An original drawing by Jarrett
-A custom drawing for our school!
In the workshop, Jarrett will speak to students about story-building, comic-making, and character creation. He will use student suggestions and ideas to design a character and build a plot. Jarrett will then give students time to work independently to design and build their own characters and stories. During this time Jarrett will answer questions, share tips, and offer feedback.
Students will leave the workshop feeling more creatively confident and capable, as well as with brand-new, easily implementable tools, techniques, and exercises they can immediately put to use to continue creating on their own.
Will you help make this happen for my students?!
