Help me give my students the opportunity to learn a critical life skill of growing their own plants. We will begin with starter seeds in our greenhouse then transfer them to our raised garden beds!
Have you ever heard of making mini greenhouses out of milk jugs and duct tape? Well, our group of amazing first graders did just that! This year students were able to grow freckled lettuce, lavender, peas, and cucumbers in homemade greenhouses. However, this coming school year the first grade team plans to make this project bigger and better.
Students will not only learn in a hands-on way about plant life cycles, but they will get to experience it.
By using starter seeds and transferring them into raised garden beds, students will see the whole life cycle before their eyes. By growing various fruits and vegetables, students will get the life experience of eating what they’ve grown.
To help make this project self-sustaining for future first graders, we will teach students the act of goods and services and create many fundraisers out of our garden. By supporting this project, you will help 80 first-grade and special needs students become blossoming little gardeners!
