My Project

One of my favorite quotes is, "Play is the foundation of learning, creativity, self-expression, and constructive problem-solving. It’s how children wrestle with life to make it meaningful."

-Susan Linn

I believe there is so much power in pretend play. There have been so many studies that show how play can positively impact learning. Some benefits are that pretend play supports the development of language and communication skills, it helps develop social skills, and it helps improve academic performance. Researchers found that children who engaged in more pretend play had better literacy skills and made better progress with reading strategies.

Knowing the benefits of pretend play, I am requesting a play kitchen and a play store to set up in my kindergarten classroom. I believe that having these resources to aid in creativity, will also help my young students to master collaboration skills, social skills, and help improve their academic learning as well as their social and emotional well-being.

My kindergarten students are extraordinary. This grade level provides children with opportunities to learn and practice essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and study skills that they will use throughout their schooling and in their future life. These developmental skills are so vital because they set the tone for their future, which is why they are so heavily focused on in kindergarten.

These tools would be such an amazing addition to my classroom and I look forward to seeing the positive benefit they have for each of my students.
