My Project

First grade is a tough year - there is so much learning that happens and it can be overwhelming when you are just six years old! Sometimes students come to school and don't know what emotions are ok to express when they are at school. I want to have an area of my classroom for them to have a safe space.

I want the classroom to be that safe space for them.

Once they are regulated - then they can jump back in to the day and be ready to learn. I don't want them to have to leave the classroom if they just need a break. These items will help them regulate, then they will be ready to join their peers!

The pillows are calming colors so that will help them see this is a safe space. It also is something that is soft so that if it is thrown it won't hurt them or any nearby peers. The marble maze is covered in fabric so they can use it as a fidget as they work to regulate themselves in the classroom.
