Help me give my students amazing picture books to use as mentor texts to expose them to a variety of topics while simultaneously developing their writing skills.

My Project

I am incredibly lucky to spend my days with 30 amazing 4th graders! As students enter my classroom each year they are just beginning to explore the deeper realm of writing as they begin to craft writing that is structured, creative, unique, and represents their own, personal voice.

Fourth grade is an incredibly pivotal year for students to develop their writing skills and I believe the best way for students to advance these skills is through enjoying reading and analyzing impeccable writing skills in great mentor texts.

The TPT gift card and the incredible books from this project will allow me to model for students skillful writing and grammar and allow them to practice crafting writing through mentor sentences that align with the mentor texts.

Purposefully selecting books that represent marginalized communities, Social Emotional Learning, and people who are different than my students will enhance the learning opportunities. The selected books will provide launching points for discussions about important life skills.
