My Project

One of the most important aspects of teaching is engagement. Part of my job is to teach students (little ones) how to stay actively participating for long periods of time. One of the reasons I ask for these supplies is to make games, manipulatives, and increase comfort in my classroom.

The hexagonal seating will be used to encourage students to move to smarter choice spots- typically on the carpet closer to the teacher.

As much as they are listening wherever they are in the classroom, it's been proven to be much better the closer they are. They are closer to hearing, seeing, using the materials at hand. They are more likely to stay engaged. It's also more convincing if the seat they get to sit on is more comfortable than their metal chairs or their desks.

The shapes are used for Social Emotional Learning opportunities and math practice.

The other materials are to increase their academic rigor without using the same materials over and over again. Changing it up every once in while will keep students learning, and some will understand better and use their new knowledge when the format has been changed.
