Help me give my students counseling games and a therapeutic couch in my office to allow my students to feel at home and comfortable, both physically and mentally.
My students do not have the means to obtain school supplies on their own. Too often this results in the child having difficulties in school due to embarrassment, low self-esteem, and lack of motivation to excel.
I have 800 amazing students ranging from Special needs to advanced placement.
My students have fewer resources at home to complete homework, study, or engage in activities that help equip them for success during the school day.
Many of the households lack access to computers, high-speed internet, and more than 50% of other materials; our school has to ask other businesses for aid to help with the families to assist them with supplies for school. Parents of our students often work longer hours or multiple jobs, meaning they may not be available to assist my students with their schoolwork. The furniture in my office will create a safe space for the students to talk about their problems, to help understand themselves. By creating a calm and safe atmosphere so my students can open up and I can help motivate students to learn and explore the world around them to help figure out what they want to do with their lives.
The calm-down area in my office is where my students can sit on the couch to have alone time and calm down. It’s not a time-out or a punishment. It simply provides kids a safe space to regain their composure.
I use games in therapy to have fun and establish a good relationship with my students. Playing games is an activity with which most children and adolescents are familiar, and it helps them relax in the therapy session and “open up” with less inhibition
The provision of these supplies assists in increasing attendance, academic performance and motivation through promotion of self esteem.
