My Project

Implementing flexible seating in my middle school special education classroom is a crucial step to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. I am currently limited to traditional seating arrangements which can often be restrictive and uncomfortable. This really hinders the focus and engagement of students who experience sensory challenges. By introducing flexible seating options such as standing desks, wobble stools, and sensory cushions, I aim to offer alternative choices that will meet the diverse sensory needs of my students.

A flexible seating approach not only allows students to choose seating that aligns with their comfort preferences but also creates a safe and adaptable space where they can learn effectively.

The freedom to move and select seating based on individual sensory requirements fosters a sense of autonomy, positively impacting concentration and participation in class activities. Additionally, the communal nature of flexible seating encourages peer interactions, collaboration, and a supportive classroom community, contributing to a holistic and enriching educational experience for all students.
