My Project

One thing most teachers are usually short on is wall space. A large advantage of using pocket charts is that they’re portable and don’t take up much space in the classroom. The pocket charts in this proposed project, can be used on the wall or on easels, and even on the side of cabinets. Young children do best with a predictable routine. One of the most important pocket charts in the classroom is the classroom schedule. Having a visual representation of the classroom schedule allows students a spot they can refer to throughout the day. It also helps transitions go more smoothly and helps my little learners feel safe and secure.

Pocket charts can be used in many different ways to support the development of a wide variety of skills in Kindergarten.

Pocket charts are a great hands-on way to incorporate interactive literacy, math, and writing lessons. All educators strive for transference, independence, and productive practice. Thinking about the ways our classroom walls can be tools to achieve these goals is essential. Being deliberate about every choice we make, including how we decorate our walls, pays off. When we are intentional and thoughtful about the way we use visual material, students will respond accordingly. Pocket charts can capture and maintain students' attention more effectively than printed material and worksheets. In this project, I also included magnetic rods to hold up the pocket charts on our dry erase board. The metal rings and clear tacks will be used to help hang up the pocket charts.
