Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

According to wisevoter.com 21% of adults in the US read at or below a 5th-grade level. Seeing this statistic, and others like it, compel me to take action. The district I work in has invested in a program called Amira Learning which utilities AI to help improve student fluency and reading skills. Since it is interactive and requires the students to talk to the program, noise levels hinder the students from being understood accurately. This skews the data and makes the recordings unbearable for playback.

This is where my request of headphones with microphones comes in.

I would be able to ensure that every child has access to the headphones, which would, in turn, allow for optimum use of the Amira Learning platform. I would be able to offer specific feedback, based on clear recordings and accurate data. My goal is to assist my students in their reading and speaking proficiency. I would like to see an increase of 40% based on their starting levels.

We have older Chromebooks that have issues with missing keys and trackpads that don't always work. The wireless keyboards would fill the need to allow certain Chromebooks to work while awaiting repair.

My kids are bright but lacking the confidence in themselves. Part of that comes from not being able to articulate themselves well. We are doing our best to practice, but not always seeing our heading tangible results. I know that having these headphones will assist in boosting that confidence in them that they can read well and conquer their worlds. Help me in providing for our future generations.
