My Project

In my technical theater class, students love to do hands-on projects and the most requested is our box project! Students design & build a hinged-lid box using scrap lumber and an original stencil they designed to decorate. We focus on tool and shop safety, creative use of resources, and construction/joint and painting techniques. Students learn measuring, fractions, and loads of real-world problem solving as they operate tools for the first time!

This project is often the first exposure students get to power tools and building and it is a joy to see them take pride in one of their first independently designed and built projects.

With the rising costs of lumber and supplies, this project gets harder and harder to fund each year. Please take a moment to support real-world problem solving and hands-on projects that will help boost interest and experience in trades!
