This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Our school is a Title I elementary school located in a city neighborhood with low socioeconomic status. We have a very diverse group, with African Americans making up the majority. More than 80% of students eat lunch for free or at a reduced cost. Being an AVID school, our goal is for our students to be lifelong learners who will attend college. My students are outstanding, eager to learn, vibrant and young.
Since we can never have enough supplies in our class store when it opens, my kids love to have snacks they can buy with the class money they earn.
I currently have a classroom economy. My students all have jobs that they earn weekly paychecks from. But with that comes paying rent and buying stuff with the money they're earning.
My students consistently want me to have snacks in my classroom. When I ask them what types of snacks they're wanting me to have available in our store when it opens, they say, chips, popcorn, cookies, flavor packets with water, and gum.
