This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
In Indiana, the number of students that pass IREAD are used to predict future prison numbers. I'm a Speech Pathologist working in the inner city of Indianapolis and I'm passionate about helping students be successful in communication (speaking, reading and writing). We are currently seeing difficulty with background knowledge which affects their ability with processing non-fiction. Flocabulary not only is aligned with state standards but it uses fun videos that are presented in a fun rap or short song to teach a skill. The skills I target are background knowledge to improved vocabulary and the skill of context clues to define unknown words. Many of my kids are very lyrical and stories and concepts presented verbally, rhythmically and visually are comprehended and remembered. Thank you for your help!
