Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Play supports language in so many ways. When children play, they learn to interact and express themselves. Play offers a low stress environment in which children can practice language skills and build their vocabulary. Autistic children need regular, meaningful and motivating opportunities to use and practice language. I am a self-contained Autism teacher at a predominantly lower-income, urban, public school. Enriched by cultural and linguistic diversity-and a range of academic abilities, my class of 10 has limited language abilities and thrives on any opportunities to enhance their academic and social skills.
I can enhance their language skills and support each student's unique path of social and emotional development.
Since I am a first year Special Education teacher, I have limited resources to provide a language rich environment in which to enhance the language development of my students with Autism.
