Students in this classroom have many great supplies, but everything feels so sterile. I want to create cozy corners for reading books or working on projects with classmates. The teepee will be an option for students during reading time. I plan to put it on one of the rugs with a lamp beside it. I plan to use the other floor cushions to put around a rug with lamps to create another working area. I want to make sure all students benefit from the items on the list. The decor that I chose is meant to lift the kids up and let them know that they all play an important part in our classroom family.
Not every student learns best by sitting at a desk in a regular classroom chair.
Some students need to have the lights turned down, some prefer sitting on the floor or under a desk. There are sensory items like a waterfall, dimmable lighting, a jellyfish light with white noise, and flexible seating. These will be calming to students with sensory needs.
My students are special because they want to be here every day. Many students in our school have suffered many hardships. They don't typically get excited for breaks or for summer. They genuinely want to be in school and I want to provide a space that feels safe, , homey and cozy to them while they are here.
