As a High school counselor, students visit my office daily through out the week. Students have come in need of supplies to cope with anxiety, mistakes, failing classes, suicidal thoughts, and self care. Those feelings are common as a teenager struggling to address the mental health needs of my students. I've observed the students benefit from having access to these supplies that have helped them cope with their feelings effectively. These supplies may include pet bean bag or toys to keep them focused and calm during stressful situations, art supplies for therapeutic drawing, earplugs for online testing, books and articles for mindfulness, positing thinking and breathing exercises. There are also wellness and positive posters with quotes that engage students in thinking positive and believing in themselves.
Facilitating an environment where our children can have a deeper connection with their feelings and heal through counseling, therapy and care brings a child closer to healing from the inside out.
As an academic counselor, we allow our office as a space for them to thrive in, academically, and emotionally. We've all had things we couldn't control as a young adult, and it can be difficult to understand what makes sense and how our choices today may impact their future tomorrow. Students walk into my office, often times want to share about their day, talk about their problems, celebrate their winnings or just check in to see how they are doing.
The resources that I've ordered allow for my students to use tools that will help them balance and maintain healthy relationships, self care and personal growth. Thank you for the opportunity.
