This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We set the bar high with reading Winn Dixie at the beginning of 3rd grade, and I want to end on a high note with a current, popular novel for my students!
Reading this book with my students will encourage them to broaden their horizons with reading, and build a love of literacy.
I have many ELL newcomers, and giving them a Spanish copy will help them feel included as well.
A quote that stood out to me in this book was, “We’re a strange family. But I kind of like it that way.” This resonates with me because while my class is full of different and unique learners, we also form our own family. I would love to share this exciting and sentimental novel with them as we close out the year.
