My Project

Introducing an electric forge into a high school engineering class could revolutionize the educational experience and empower students in various ways. This is a Title 1 school in a rural area. This will give students hands-on learning opportunities that engage students in practical application of concepts we learn in engineering and their science classes.

The practical experience gained from using an electric forge enhances college and career readiness by developing technical skills sought after in industries such as manufacturing, engineering, and construction, thus increasing their competitiveness in the job market.

We are a small school but I try to give my students exposure to as many fields of engineering as possible and I try to incorporate practical and realistic class projects. We have recently visited the forge as the local university. It has sparked a great interest in materials engineering in my students. I want to bring this electric forge into the school so I can expand upon their interest and give them exposure to a skill that most people will never experience.

With the help of the student forging club at the local college, I want to make green sand for my students to use in casting. We will then take locally sourced recycled aluminum to use as our metal. I want the students to create designs with our 3D printer that they can then cast in aluminum.
