This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth graders love to read! Reading in the classroom needs to be fun and engaging to help keep them interested in reading. This project will help them with their focus and reading stamina.

These camping themed items will make reading fun, exciting, and special.

At least once a week we will have a flashlight reading session. We will turn the lights off, put a campfire video on the big screen, and students will choose a spot in the classroom and read. They will be able to use the flashlights to shine on the books, the cushions will allow flexible seating and make it more comfortable for students to sit anywhere in the room, the fake campfire will help create the camping/reading mood, and the stickers will be a fun way to end the reading session for all who participate.

Sometimes independent reading in the classroom can seem like a chore for some students. Flashlight reading will allow a more engaging, fun reading experience that students can look forward to each week.
