This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an education specialist, I regularly work on helping English language learners and students with learning differences to work on phonics instruction and blending. Many of my students have concepts of letter sounds and formation, but have weaknesses in blending sounds to read words.

This whiteboard would help my students have visual access to concepts of prints and have a space to practice sound blending.

Students need access to a teacher exemplar in action in order to learn how to read and blend sounds, especially when they do not have these opportunities at home. For many of my students, school is the only place where they have access to academic language in English, which is essential for future success.
