Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students and I breathe life into English. But, my students keep running out of pencils and highlighters. This hardship makes writing and highlighting texts difficult and frustrating. They are valuable but finite resources that get spread thin throughout the school year. My students use the pencils down to the nub with highlighters drying out from overuse. Thus, frustrating moments can occur as we scurry around making sure everyone has this basic supply they need. My students are achievers who can conquer any challenge(s) placed before them. Yet, even this is a bit much for them to handle.

Their drive and determination to succeed despite their surroundings have inspired our school and our community to reexamine and renew efforts to help our town move forward in a more positive light.
