My Project

Bring the exiting field of aeronautics to my middle school students, by helping them to create airplanes and learn to fly. Along the way they will use their newly acquired science concepts to gain lift off and figure out mathematical concepts to create predictability.

Our students will learn about the field of aeronautics, build their own airplanes and then change variables to create planes of their own design.

While this is exciting work we do expect our students to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes along the way. The glue guns, basswood, batteries, and tool kits in our cart are designed to allow our students to fix their planes and gain valuable skills and insight along the way that will help them learn.

In a traditional educational environment students are often afraid of failure and see initial failures as an end. The hope is for students to see that they can recover and repair after failures and end up with an even better end product. This life lesson will serve these students well wherever life happens to take them.
