Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A students’ ability to communicate and to access their education is successful when the right tools are involved. My project is a combination of accessible tools for my newer and more challenged students, and resources that will teach everyone to regulate their emotions through play. Puppet theater and community exposure to grocery stores and knowing that we are part of something so much bigger than ourselves will increase my students’ awareness of how to connect with others in an environment that fosters social skills and communication.
Because my students need access to tangible and visual representation of what their feelings are called and what we can do if we are out of control, the items in this project set include opportunities for a calmer learning environment.
We are finishing up a gardening unit and beginning our space unit. Fine motor development is an area that some students come in really struggling with. They need adapted tools to grow those muscles in their hands and fingers so they can access the secondary skill of letter/number/shape identification and social skills. These are daily skills within units that teach them about their world (space and gardening). They would greatly benefit from your assistance. My students lean heavily on visuals, which adds up quickly and exceeds the limit of what school funding provides.
I’ve reached my limit to what I can pay out on my own and need your help to keep their momentum building! Specific learning goals for those who need more help require some extra materials, and their growth depends on having access to larger crayons and spring scissors. Puppet theater would help foster student communication and articulation (especially with my speech kiddos). Gardening teaches them cause and effect, scientific concepts, engaging inquisitive minds to wonder! Let’s set them up for success!
