Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math manipulatives are invaluable tools in a Life Skills classroom, offering a hands-on approach to learning that supports differentiated instruction and meets the unique needs of diverse learners. These tangible objects, ranging from counting blocks to geometric shapes, provide students with opportunities to engage with mathematical concepts in a concrete and visual manner. For students who struggle with abstract concepts, manipulatives offer a tactile experience that fosters understanding and retention.

Incorporating manipulatives into direct instruction allows us to accommodate various learning styles and abilities, allowing students to explore and interact with math in ways that resonate with them individually.

Math manipulatives promote active learning by encouraging students to manipulate objects, make connections, and solve problems collaboratively, As well as develop critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.

For instance, when using fraction tiles to explore equivalent fractions, students not only see the relationship between different fractions but also actively manipulate the tiles to discover patterns and connections. This interactive approach not only enhances comprehension but also promotes a deeper conceptual understanding that extends beyond rote memorization.
