Can you smell the chocolate chip cookies our second grade boys are going to bake? How about the banana bread they'll soon have in the oven?
While teaching math, reading, and how to follow directions, I would like to start an after school baking program for the second grade boys in my school.
Our second grade girls explored recipes during their Girl Scouts program, but the boys have not had that opportunity...yet!
It's time to get the boys in the kitchen! This after school program will familiarize students with kitchen basics, and teach them how to bake treats that they will eat and bring home to their families. Each child will make their own cookbook and potholder to keep once the program has ended.
Some of the resources I have requested for our after school second grade boys baking program include: a baking sheet tray, pot holders, muffin tins, bread loaf pans, flour, aluminum foil, and more!
Kids belong in the kitchen - not only because they can learn about safety and health while developing their creative side, but also so they can be self-dependent someday.
