My Project

High school athletes from lower income communities often struggle to reach their potential because they lack quality equipment ... or lack equipment altogether. Our soccer teams are not allotted an athletics class period. All practice takes place outside of school hours. The school budget for soccer is very, very small. Many of these students work as well as play soccer. Others choose to play soccer knowing they will have to walk a significant distance home because there is not a bus after practice.

These student athletes are committed to becoming the best they can be and supporting each other as friends and teammates.

Having their own pair of shin guards and soccer cleats will allow these young athletes to focus on developing skills rather than whether their shoes are going to cause them to slip. They will not have to share shin guards between the girls and boys teams and between players on the same team. They will all have new soccer socks. This equipment will increase their pride in themselves and their team.
