This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our small rural school has amazing students who go on to do wonderful things! I am fortunate enough to be able to coach our Forestry Challenge team and have been able to witness the students come together to problem solve and compete against much larger schools. The Forestry Challenge is an academic competition where students learn forestry skills and tackle real problems in our forests. They analyze data and put together a 15-minute presentation on their findings and then present it in front of judges. We work on prepping for the event throughout the year and one of our limitations is access to computers that we can use for the event. Our school uses Chromebooks, and while these work well when we have access to wifi, we can't use them for the event since it is located in a remote area that doesn't have consistent wifi. and all our files need to be Microsoft Office. Our students feel limited by our old computers that glitch and have caused them to lose parts of their presentations. Please pitch in to help them buy computers that we can use for the event!
