This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For third grade, students learn about fractions concretely for the first time. Our math program does not give us hands on manipulatives for our fraction unit. This puts students at a disadvantage when learning to compare fractions. Some students may divide their fraction strips equally, but most are still learning this skill. It makes it easier for students to accurately compare thirds to fifths and other fractions when they have a concrete visual. It also helps me to know I can easily have students use the fraction manipulatives to compare fractions. Plus, the fraction manipulatives have vivid colors to identify the different fractional units. Having these manipulatives will help my students and myself enjoy this fraction unit even more!
