Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One of the guiding principles of my classroom is learning life skills. When they come in for the first time, I tell my students and families that we don't just learn the academics in fifth grade. Students will walk out of our class being more prepared for life outside of school. They will know how to monitor a bank account, pay rent, maintain a job, and all the complementary skills that go along with those big life responsibilities! These are all learned and practiced through our class economy where students have a class job that they get paid for through an online bank account. They also must pay rent on their desk each month. Then, with whatever money they have saved, they can spend it in our class store.
Your donations help stock our class store and auction so students continue feeling motivated to earn money and save it in our class economy!
There are many extra opportunities in our economy for students to make bonus money, such as extraordinary acts of kindness, using their free time to practice academic skills, and being a content expert who helps teach their classmates. One of my favorite parts is seeing the students save their money to buy something from the store for their little buddy, sibling, or parents!
