Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Lakeshore Learning Math Activities will be beneficial for my students to see concrete objects for multiplication, division and fractions. My diverse learners are visual learners and being able to see the concepts will help them learn better. I plan to use the activities in small group to help them understand concepts like size and equivalency. Games help students with problem solving and to improve thinking skills.

My goal for this project is to help improve the overall math skills of my students.

Students learn best when they are involved in hands-on activities. Students are more motivated when they see that there is something fun like a math game and they don't realize they are actually learning. Using math models and tangible items helps emphasize persistency and helps with frustration. Also, working together with a partner helps them build social skills. Students are also more willing to participate in a hands-on activity then raise their hand to answer a question.

The students that I work with are of Hispanic descent and are from low income households. I have Learning Disabled students and some students that are on the Autism Spectrum. They need a lot of reassurance and motivation to help them in class to make gains in academic areas. They need to explore and make sense of the world around them. Using Math tools like counters, cubes, and other manipulatives help the concepts they are learning come alive. My students will greatly benefit from the items from Lakeshore Learning to help make gains in Math.
