Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Throughout the school year, we have had a class store in our room. Students earn money during the week and earn the chance to go to the class store and buy a variety of things. In this project, I am asking for items to replenish and keep my class store alive for the remainder of the school year.

The class store teaches my students financial literacy, and budgeting, as well as a form of classroom management!

This is my first year with a class store and the whole demeanor of the classroom has changed. Students take ownership of their actions and their work more this year with the class store than in previous years. So far, students have learned so much about financial literacy as well as budgeting. We have spent some time on how our class store represents the real world and what students will have to do as they become adults. I have also noticed how some friends are beginning to share money with others and show kindness to students who are absent a lot one week and do not have a lot of money for the class store. It has also shown students how to share and respect others' materials.

Funding this project will allow my students to continue to learn about these important topics they will need to succeed in life after school.
